Gerard J. Cormier, 89, a lifelong resident of Sanford passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 10,2014. He was born in Sanford on April 15, 1924 a son of the late Emile and Cora (Pelletier) Cormier. He served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.He retired from Roger's Supa Dolla, working in the meat department for 42 years. A lifelong communicant of St Therese of Lisieux Parish he served the church in many capacities, including lector, cantor, choir singer, alter server for masses and funerals, Eucharistic Minister and participated in the men's prayer group. He also enjoyed singing with the Seaglass Chorale and was very proud to have participated in over 10 operetta shows after the age of 75. He was a life-long genealogist and was very dedicated in documenting many family histories. He touched many lives with his kind and generous spirit and will be sorely missed by many.He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Fernande (Guillemette). He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Daniel and wife Leslie Cormier of Windsor, SC, Martin Cormier of Springvale, ME and Madeleine and her husband Ronald Ross of Springvale ME; three brothers and one sister, Rosaire and his wife Anita of Sanford, ME; Rene and his wife Aline of Bristol, CT, Donald and his wife Therese of Sanford, ME and Mary Jane and her husband Roger Bougie of Alfred, ME; six grandchildren Stacey, Telisa, Anne-Marie, Kelly, David, Eric; and six Great-Grandchildren Arianna, Bailey, Avery, Ella, Harper, Carter and many nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 6 to 8PM at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale.
