Armand Cormier
Armand 'Moxie' V. Cormier,93, of Sanford, passed away on Monday January 8, 2007 at the St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford. He was born in Springvale, on April 6, 1913, one of twelve children of Narcisse and Rosanna (Doiron) Cormier.Moxie attended school in Sanford and operated for several years, 'The Nickelet Diner'. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 28 and was a veteran of twenty seven years of Honorable Service to his country. Moxie served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Cold War, and the War on Global Terrorism.He served aboard the RMS-Queen Mary, RMS-Queen Elizabeth, U.S.S. Turner, U.S.S. K.D. Bailey, U.S.S. Forrestal, and the U.S.S. Donner. He served at the Battle of the Philippines Sea in 1944 and was part of Adm. Fletcher's Task Force.Moxie is the recipient of eighteen medals and other awards. One of the proudest moments of his Naval Service was being aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal when she was commissioned in 1954 and being a recipient of a ship's plank.Moxie was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Dickerson) Cormier. He is survived by two of his siblings, Rita Berube, of Dover, NH and Evangeline Skoolicas, of Barrington, NH, in addition to his sisters in law, several nieces, nephews, and many close friends, especially Carol and Philippe Cabana of Springvale.All that knew Moxie will miss him. We thank him for his dedicated service to our country.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13th, at 11AM at St. Therese de Liseux/ Holy Family Church in Sanford.
