Elsie Ann (Foote) Cooke, 99, of Lebanon, Maine and formerly of Weston, Massachusetts died peacefully on May 9, 2009 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, Maine with her family by her side.Elsie was born on the family farm in Weston, MA on Marsh 8, 1910 to James T. and Maria (Arnold) Foote. She was educated for several years in a one-room schoolhouse in Weston and then went on to junior high and high school, graduating from Weston High School in 1927. Following graduation, Elsie attended the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. She worked for a time as a secretary in Boston until she married Charles Vinyl Cooke on August 11, 1934. After getting married, her life was centered on being a wife and a mother to her two children. She and her husband purchased the house across the street from her family farm. Elsie spent the next 60 years there until moving to Lebanon in 2004 to be closer to family. Elsie also did secretarial work for the Weston Historical society and was the president of the Weston Senior citizens club for a period of time.Elsie was very clever at hooking rugs, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. She and her husband were avid fishermen and shared many adventures at their camp outside of Greenwood, ME. They also traveled to Alaska and Newfoundland on fishing trips. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Charles V. Cooke in June of 1981.She is survived by her two children, Linda C. Marshall of Lebanon, ME and Charles H. Cooke of Portland, ME; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.At Elsie's request there will be no funeral services at this time. A family graveside memorial will be held at a later date at the Linwood Cemetery in Weston, MA.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the charity of one's choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale, ME.
