Warren A. Collins

Warren A. Collins, 86, of Shapleigh, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.Warren was born on April 18, 1920 in Enfield, Connecticut to Marshall and Jennie Heigh Collins. He attended local schools while at the same time helping his father run the family farm. He graduated from Enfield High School in 1938 and enrolled in trade school where he was trained as a machinist. After finishing trade school, he was employed for a few years at Pratt & Whitney where he worked as a machinist.In 1944 Mr. Collins married his wife Elva and together they raised 4 children. During World War II, he was sent back to Enfield where he ran the family farm. Later in life he bought a farm of his own which he ran with his children. In 1985, he retired to Maine and built a house in Shapleigh where he lived for the remainder of his life. Warren enjoyed growing vegetables at his home in Maine and could often be found outdoors tending to his garden. He was also an active member of the Shapleigh First Baptist Church. Mr. Collins was a very hard worker throughout his life as well as a devoted family man. He will be remembered as a very kind hearted person and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.Surviving are his wife, Elva Collins, of Shapleigh, ME; a daughter, Kathleen Collins of Shapleigh, ME; three sons, Arthur K. Collins and his wife Joyce of Wisconsin, Paul G. Collins and his wife Linda of New York and Mark C. Collins and his wife Susan of New York; a brother, Walter Collins and a sister, Frances C. Whitehead, both of Connecticut; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at the Hazardville Cemetery in Hazardville, Connecticut on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 10:00 AM. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Shapleigh First Baptist Church in Shapleigh, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Shapleigh First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 284, Shapleigh, Maine 04076.
