Doris J. Emerson, 75, of Alfred, a longtime resident of Wells, died June 25 at the York Hospital after a lengthy illness.She was born in Sanford on June 21, 1933, a daughter of John E. and Marion (Reid) Ducharme, Sr., attended local schools and was a 1953 graduate of Wells High School.Doris worked for a time with the former Morningstar Company, but most of her life she worked as a waitress at the Coffee Pot and Cozy Corner Diner, both in Wells and for many years at the Cockpit Cafe at the Sanford Regional Airport. She lived in Epping, NH for several years and worked as a waitress at Mona's Restaurant in Exeter, NH during that time. She moved to Alfred several years ago.Doris was an active woman, serving as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member and Past Master of the Highpine Grange in Wells, life member and Past Worthy Matron of the former Priscilla Chapter #35, OES in Wells. Doris was a member of the Wells Congregational Church, UCC.She enjoyed family trips and had joined her extended family in recent years traveling to Scotland and a couple of years later to Alaska. She enjoyed genealogy, crocheting, loved lighthouses and was a NASCAR fan.For the past several years she took great pride in the fact that she ironed the funeral flags used to drape veterans' caskets at the Black Funeral Homes in Sanford and Springvale.Her husband, Harold B. Emerson, died in 1988. She was also predeceased by 4 brothers, Robert Ducharme, Francis Ducharme, Walter Ducharme, and Eugene Ducharme.Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Banks and her husband Wayne of No. Waterboro, son Billy Cameron and his wife Stacie of Shirley, son Wayne Cameron of Sanford, sisters Nancy Clark and her husband Fred of No. Berwick, Donna Irish of Gorham, brothers Donald Ducharme of Florida, John Ducharme and his wife Marilyn of Florida,two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 11 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Diane Wendorf officiating.
