FALMOUTH - John "Jack" Scott Berube, 79, of Falmouth, Maine passed away on January 18, 2013 after a brief illness. John was born in October 2, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to John and Ruth Scott Berube. He graduated from Deering High School in 1951 and entered the US Army, where he served 3 years overseas. He attended Officer's Training School and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant.John graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Government Administration from George Washington University. After graduating from BU, he married Josephine Casale in 1959 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine and moved to Washington, DC where he worked at the US Census Bureau. Upon retiring in 1981, he and his family moved back to Maine and resided in Falmouth. During his retirement, he volunteered as the throwing coach for the girls' track team at South Portland High School. From there he was hired as the throwing coach on track teams at Portland HS, Falmouth, Greeley, Gray /New Gloucester, University of Southern Maine and Bowdoin College. He also coached the throwers on the UNUM Corporate Track team. He was a well-respected coach. Many of his throwers were local, state and New England regional champions, including his daughter, who was also a two-time All American. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Josephine, daughters Christine Berube and Jeanne Pickering, and her husband, Douglas Pickering, a granddaughter, Katie Pickering, and a brother, Peter Zografos and his wife Lynn, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather who dearly loved his children and granddaughter and he will be greatly missed. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
