Mary F. Berry

Portland - Mary F. "FoFo" (Sullivan) Berry, 85, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, after declining health and a brief stay at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Born in Portland on December 5, 1931, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Conley) Sullivan. Like many who were raised in Gorham's Corner, she was proud of her Irish Heritage and was a communicant of the former St. Dominic's Parish. Mary married John E. Berry in 1960. Together, they started a family and looked forward to the future. Their future together was abruptly changed due to the untimely death of her husband in 1969. As devastating as this was to the family, Mary remained strong for her children's sake throughout the difficult loss. As a widowed mother, Mary's work ethic, loving devotion and deeply rooted faith gave her the strength to raise 5 children on her own while working full time as a secretary at Prop Maine and Maine Artificial Limb. She was a very caring, loving, generous and devoted woman who always put others needs above her own. Her family was the most important aspect of her life. She will be deeply missed. Mary was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, and her adored son, John Berry who passed away in 2015. In addition to her husband and son, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Barrett; brothers, John "Buddy" Sullivan, Phillip Sullivan, and James Sullivan. She is survived by her daughters, Kathie Deneault and husband Paul of MA, Gail Cipoletta and her companion Stewart Solomon of MA, Stephanie Berry and husband Kevin Hartnett of FL; son, Paul Berry and wife Laurie of Portland; daughter-in-law, Karen Berry of Westbrook; grandchildren, Jeffrey Gold, Randy Cipoletta, Hayley Wandell and Matthew Berry; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Landon. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 29 at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 65 Mellen Street, Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
