South Portland Barbara Arnoldo, 89, passed away at her home, Thursday, November 3, 2016. Barbara was born in Bristol, Rhode Island, May 12, 1927. She was the youngest daughter of Portuguese immigrants Joaquim and Maria Rodrigues. She married John H. Arnoldo, Sr. in 1946, in Bristol, Rhode Island, and they moved to South Portland, Maine, in 1951. They raised three children together. Her husband, John, predeceased her in 1984. Barbara was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and volunteered extensively to the Catholic Church both for the Diocese of Portland and her local parish, St. John the Evangelist. Some of her many contributions included Parish Council, Church Life Commission, Spirituality Commission, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Choir member (alto), RCIA, Pre-Cana, Ecumenical Activities with other area churches, fund raising including running Beano, assisting the Diocesan Tribunal with depositions, and as an affiliate of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (The Good Shepard Sisters). She also volunteered for the community as a board member for VNA Home Health Care and as a patient ombudsman at St. Josephs Manor. Barbara was passionate about her faith in Jesus and remained faithful to her final moment. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Arnoldo; her son John Arnoldo, Jr. and his partner Ron Zeiler; and her youngest son Thomas Arnoldo, his wife Christine and their twin sons Matthew and Andrew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM, Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Holy Cross Church , 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Afterwards, family and friends are invited to a reception until 3:00PM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough.
