Resided in: Cape Elizabeth, ME

Cape Elizabeth - John M. Gildard, 61, passed away on February 2, 2020, at is home. John is survived by his wife, Janet Gildard; his three sons, Jason and his wife Erika, Patrick and Francis, his three grandchildren, Leira, River and Nyota; his sister, Michelle; a brother, Wendell and many nieces and nephews. John worked at Alewive's Brook Farm where he traveled for farmer's markets and cultivated many business and friend relationships alike. John also played softball his whole adult life and remained a coach/player of an over fifty softball team. A major sports fan; John enjoyed traveling to games with his sons and had sports on the TV 24/7 at home. We all noticed a real change in him when his grandchildren arrived. John and his grandson were best friends and did everything together, such as trips to the fairs for rides, seeing the animals, and checking out trucks. Whether it was a quick trip to the track to see the horses and place a bet, to digging holes in the back yard, John enjoyed River's company no matter their destination. In the most recent weeks, as long as his grandson got his bubble gum, then the day could continue. This was heart warming for all to see. The small things; that's what people remember. Visiting Hours will be held at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. 5. My wife and I are saddened to hear of John’s passing. I only have fond memories of spending my summer vacations in Maine. Always looking forward to hanging out, watching and playing sports together, staying up late watching ESPN. Although he was older than my brothers and myself he always treated us one of his crew. I remember some of those times like they were yesterday. My heart goes out to Janet, her children and their families. Love always Pat and Judy Fox

  6. John and I met ten years ago when I started the farmers market in Saco, he became a good friend and we shared many laughs. He had quite the following of customers who would only get their veggies from John. When his little grandson came along he would just melt when he would show pictures of him, he visited my farm a few times to show him the baby piglets, he would stay until he was ready to go which could be awhile lol! He also talked about the games him and his son would go to and looked forward to spending time with him and would share pictures of the game when he came back. The market won’t be the same without you my friend…
