Jean Duran McGovern

Portland - Jean Duran (Farrington) McGovern died on June 16, 2018, at Maine Medical Center.
She was born on March 16, 1951, the daughter of Clyde and Ruth (Demmons) Farrington. Jean grew up in the Portland area, attending local schools until she graduated from Deering High School in 1969. After high school she went to the University of Southern Maine, graduating in 1973.
Later that year she married her husband, John Thomas McGovern, also of Portland. They stayed together the rest of her life, celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary last December.
Jean was a lifelong lover of animals, and was well known for her love for her dogs. She supported several animal welfare groups as well as organizations related to her children's activities, including Deering High School Football Boosters, Hall School PTA, and Deering Center Little League.
Jean is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Justin McGovern, Jason McGovern and his wife Sharon; two grandchildren, Ryan and Avery McGovern; and loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her sister, Anne Childs, who passed in 2015; and is survived by Anne's daughter, Courtney Spofford and her husband Jeff; and grandson, Max Spofford.
