Augusta- Bruce Alan Breton, 71, passed away on August 9, 2019. Bruce was born in Berlin, NH, on October 29, 1947, the son of Joseph P. and Fern E. (Frasier) Breton.
Bruce grew up in South Portland, attending South Portland schools with his siblings. After high school, Bruce found himself like many others during that era, in the Vietnam War. While Bruce was serving his country, he was stationed in Alaska within 50 miles of Russia on a missile base. Following his time in the service, Bruce returned to the lower 48 to start working. During his working career, he continuously worked for the Federal Government, first the IRS and then Togus V.A., where he would retire from in 2014.
Bruce was a true Mainer through and through, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and foraging. If Bruce was inside of his home, it meant one of two things; it was either the winter months or it was nighttime and he was sleeping. He was an active member of the Elks, AM Legion and the VFW. Most importantly, he just loved the Maine woods and everything it had to offer.
Bruce is survived by his mother, Fern Ellen of South Portland; his son, Michael Breton of Vassalboro; grandson, Brandon Breton of Vassalboro; his brother, Brian Breton of Belgrade Lakes and his sister, Sharon Breton of South Portland. Bruce was predeceased in life by his father.
Visiting Hours celebrating Bruce's life will be held on Monday, August 19 from 6-8PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. To view Bruce's memorial page or to share an online condolence, please visit www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.
