PORTLAND -David Patrick May, 73, passed away on Saturday May 2, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, following a long courageous battle with many health issues. David was born in Lubec, Maine on January 19, 1947, the second son of William May Jr. and Velma (Porter) May. He attended Lubec schools and graduated with the class of 1965. After graduation, he moved to the Southern Maine area where he met and married the former Sandra Davis and they had two sons, David and Christopher. He later met his longtime and current wife Donna. They have spent many years together caring for one another. David and his wife Donna were married on May 27, 1976 and would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this month. During his working years, David worked primarily at Nissen's Bakery in Portland, where he held a variety of positions within the company over the years until his retirement. David spent most of his time after retirement, enjoying life, spending time with his family and grandchildren and attending flea markets and lawn sales in search of the elusive "find" until his health hampered his mobility. David will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a quiet man, a gentle giant who loved his family, the bible, pizza and chocolate and was a big fan of John Wayne, war movies and NASCAR. David was predeceased by his parents, his brother William, his former wife Sandra and his son David Jr. He is survived by his wife Donna of Portland, his devoted son Chris and his wife Shannon and their sons, Ashton and Quentyn May of Westbrook, his grandchildren David III and wife Maria of Westbrook, Kristen and her husband James of Westbrook, Kyle and wife Monica of Durham, Gianna of New Hampshire, and his great granddaughter Cecelia as well as several extended family members and friends. A private interment was at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland.
