Judith D. Lappin 1943-2022 SOUTH PORTLAND--Judith D. Lappin, 78, of South Portland, died Sunday February 20, peacefully at her home, as she wished. She was born in Portland April 13, 1943, the daughter of Dorothy E. Fogg and Wyatt B. Hammett. Judy grew up in Portland and attended Portland High School. As a young adult she lived in San Jose, CA before returning home to Maine. She was a librarian at the Portland Public Library for 37 years, retiring in 2017. When she wasn't working, Judy enjoyed reading, theater/acting, playing Scrabble (and winning with her expansive vocabulary), spending time with her beloved dog Angus and listening to music, especially her favorites like Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra. She fondly remembered her trip to Ireland in 2012 with friends she had made through Angus' doggie day care. Those who knew her will always remember her sarcastic sense of humor, infectious laughter, and her wit. Judy was predeceased by her husband, James B. Lappin and two sons, Karl Paschal and Sean Fitzgerald. She is survived by her daughter, Lindsay Ornelas and her husband Ernesto of Gorham; her son Matthew Fitzgerald and his wife Michelle of Matthews, NC; her grandchildren, Sofia and Maya Ornelas and Ryan, Shaelyn and Kylie Fitzgerald and her beloved dog, "Angus" A celebration of life will be held at a later date. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. 3. I have walked Angus for years and all that time keeping my eye on Judy. I made her my Mac and cheese which she adored when I thought she looked to skinny. I shoveled her walk when she was snowed in. I really loved her and will miss her. Rest In Peace Judy. We’ll take good care of Angus.
