Portland- Dolores M. Sylvester, 77, of Northfield Green, died peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Cedars Nursing Center following a long illness. Dolores was born in Portland, Maine on January 26, 1941 the daughter of the late James J. and Julia V. (Geary) Ricci. She attended local schools and graduated from Cathedral High School in the class of 1958. Dolores worked for many years as a facilities manager for the US Department of Public Health, she did housekeeping for several doctors and their families in the area and was a longtime volunteer at Maine Medical Center. In her spare time she loved to cook Italian food, her stuffed shells were famous and her Italian cookies could always be found during the holidays. She loved attending Coffee Club at Dunkin Donuts with the girls just about every morning. Her greatest love was the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. Dolores will always be remembered as a strong, fiercely independent woman who would always go out of her way to help others. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ann Guimond, Ursula Carson, and Mary Ricci; a daughter in law, Lynne Marie Sylvester; two brother in laws, Skip Carson and Frederick Butts. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Marie and her husband Claude Phanor of Portland; two sons Kenneth W. III and his wife Jinlan Sylvester of Portland, and Michael and his wife Diane Sylvester of Portland; two sisters, Evelyn Butts of Portland and Helen Guimond of Scarborough; two brothers, Patrick Ricci of Lincoln, and James and his wife Charlene Ricci of Buxton; five grandchildren, Nicholas Graham of CO, Valentino Graham of FL, Gabrielle Sylvester of Portland, Kenneth W. Sylvester IV of Portland, Leah Durr of Standish, Arianna Dupont of Portland; two great grandchildren, Josie Lynne Sylvester of Windham and Isabella Graham of Portland; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours celebrating Dolores life will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 9:15am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland, ME. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
