Sylvia-Anne Moore

April 16, 1938 ~ August 6, 2020
Portland - Sylvia-Anne Moore, 82, passed away on August 6, 2020 at Maine Medical Center after a short illness.
Born in Plainsfield, NJ on April 16, 1938, Sylvia-Anne was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Irish) Moore. Even though she moved to Maine within the first year of her life, her daughter always jokingly reminded her that she was not a true "Mainer". Sylvia-Anne graduated from Deering High School in 1956. She was affectionately referred to as "Shorty" or "Half-Pint" by her classmates and field hockey teammates.
After school, she worked as a CNA in nursing homes for several years prior to working for Fairchild's/National Semi-Conductor before retiring in the mid-eighties. To say Sylvia-Anne was passionate about her work is an understatement. She put her all into everything she did. When she volunteered for the Red Cross, she went above and beyond, donating blood as often as she could. Sylvia-Anne was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary for 40+ years. During that time, she helped with all of the parades and served as a Chaplain and Auxiliary President. Sylvia-Anne would even don a clown outfit (before it became scary) to help bring light to everyone around her. Her giving nature even brought her to the Maine Medical Center as a Volunteer greeter.
Sylvia-Anne enjoyed many simple pleasures such as reading or having an ice-cold Coca Cola while completing a jigsaw puzzle. However, nothing brought more joy to her than her family, especially her grandchildren. Family was everything to Sylvia-Anne.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia-Anne is predeceased by her aunts, Mildred and Shirley, and 1 nephew.
She is survived by her brothers, Frank C. "Calvin" Moore, Jr. and wife Caryll of South Portland and Howard C. Moore of Florida, as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She is also survived by her children, Sherri-Anne Rosengren and husband Eric of Poland, Jeffrey Brown of New Hampshire, Joey Brown and wife Lori of Michigan, and Margaret Orlandella and husband Vincenzo of Saco. Additionally, Sylvia-Anne is survived by her grandchildren, Shyla, Zante, Thomas, Me'chell, Megan, Theresa, and Joseph, step-grandchildren Liz and Katie, and many great-grandchildren, with the most recent being Lyra.
Visiting Hours celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, August 13 from 12-1PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland followed by a Graveside Service at Forest City Cemetery, Lincoln Street, South Portland.
Those desiring may make a monetary or blood donation to the American Red Cross in honor of Sylvia-Anne.
Sending big hugs to you all. Her lifetime of volunteering is a true inspiration. I’ll always be thankful for her warm welcome into the family.

Sylvia-Ann was the kindest and sweetest person you ever knew. Her smile from behind the Red Cross front desk really mad a person’s day. She was always there to lend a helping hand or an ear to listen to. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.
