SOUTH PORTLAND - Catherine Elizabeth Campbell, 84, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a courageous battle with cancer. She grew up in the Libbytown section of Portland, the daughter of Edward and Catherine Foley, with her younger brother Eddie and sister Mary. She had an Irish twinkle, a kind and generous heart and an unmistakable sincerity to anyone she met. She kept her Rosary at her bedside and said The Prayer of Mother Theresa every night. She never needed or wanted much for herself, but was always giving much to others. Her physical presence will be missed by all who knew her, but her stories through countless happy memories will remain. Catherine is survived by her two sons, Steve and Don, both of Scarborough, her daughter Catherine Tarbox and her husband Michael Tarbox and her grandson Campbell Tarbox of Limerick. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald K. Campbell in 2009; her daughter-in-law, Janet Campbell; as well as her first grandson, Cooper Edward Campbell. Many thanks to the caregivers at New England Cancer Specialists in Scarborough and at Gosnell Hospice House. An opportunity to raise a glass in her regard will be forthcoming this Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. Memorial contributions may be made to WinterKids (winterkids.org) in memory of Catherine and her late grandson, Cooper Edward Campbell. Thank you all

  1. Cathy was like a ray of sunshine every time I saw her; she enjoyed every moment when she was at Don’s gigs, and she was so proud of all her children. She was a beautiful, kind, sweet lady, and she will be missed by so many. Heaven just became a little more special… We love you, Cathy.

  5. Dear Steve, Don, and Cathy. I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I met her only once when she drove Steve and I to our prom senior year at Scarborough High School. Neither Steve nor I had our license, so she was kind enough to drive us. We were in the back seat while she drove upfront. I think she sensed how nervous I was going to my first dance. I remember her bubbling over with conversation trying to make us feel at ease. She was a beautiful woman and I appreciated her that evening. She picked us up after the prom and was thrilled to hear her Steve was chosen king of the prom and I queen. I think she was even more excited than we were… no doubt a proud mother of Steve that evening. A fond memory that I will always have. May your own memories bring you peace during this very challenging time…know too, that her lively spirit remains with you forever. Sincerely, Sheila (Doucette) Polkow
