South Portland- Lenore J. Punsky, 83, of Thirlmere Ave. died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Lenore was born in Jersey City, NJ on June 13, 1936 the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Rose (Tucci) Rodney. She graduated from Portland High School.
On November 27, 1954 she married Lester Punsky in Portsmouth, NH. Together they made their home and raised their family in Portland.
Lenore owned and operated her own Daycare on Munjoy Hill which she ran for more than 45 years. She loved children and the children all loved her.
She loved her home and enjoyed preparing big Italian meals for family and friends to enjoy, there was always room for one more at Lenore's table. Her strong faith and love of God was apparent in her everyday life. She loved gospel music and going to church on a regular basis at the First Assembly of God in Portland. It was there that she prayed for family, friends, and who ever needed her prayers. Lenore always put others needs before her own. She will always be remembered as generous, caring, thoughtful person in which every positive word could be used to describe her. "We all become wonderful at death, she was wonderful her entire life."
Lenore was predeceased by her husband, Lester Punsky; a son, Jeffrey Punsky; a sister, Rose Ann Hunnewell; three brothers, Thomas, Joseph, and Paul Rodney. She is survived by a daughter, Dianna and her husband Roger Reed of South Portland; a daughter in law, Kathleen Punsky of Scarborough; three sisters, Mary Dvilinsky of Portland, Beatrice Panagakos of Scarborough, and Katy and her husband Edwin Seeley of NY; five brothers, Robert and his wife Anne Rodney of Portland, Andrew and his wife Trudy Rodney of Arundel, George and his wife Patricia Rodney of Windham, Raymond and his wife Nancy Rodney of SC, and John and his wife Dawn Rodney of Litchfield; four grandchildren, Christopher Landon of MA, Jay and his wife Bonnie Punsky of MA, Chris Reed of Biddeford, and Trisha Landon of South Portland; three great grandchildren, Kristopher, Taylor Rose, and Elijah Landon all of South Portland; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Trisha Landon, Lenore's granddaughter, who has been her primary caregiver.
Visiting hours celebrating Lenore's life will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 10:00am to 12:00PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will follow at the chapel at 12:00pm with Pastor Abraham, from the First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. I am so very, very sorry to hear that my Aunt Lenore has left us, but most especially you, Dianna. I know how hard it has been for you to lose your Dad and brother and now your Mom. I will always remember the wonderful and caring things your mother always said about mine. My mother loved Lenore and appreciated her friendship. I will be thinking of you every day.
