Westbrook- Eleanor R. Malia, 84, of Landing Road, died peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2018, at the Avita Living Center in Westbrook. Eleanor was born in Union City, New Jersey on December 17, 1933, the daughter of the late George J. and Doretta B. (Reis) Jungermann. She attended local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in New Jersey, in the class of 1951. She furthered her education, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Music from St. Elizabeth's College in New Jersey. After moving to Maine, Eleanor taught grade school in Raymond for ten years. She later worked at Filene's Department Store and Sears before taking the job of assistant manager at the Sherwin Williams Paint Store, a position she held for nineteen years. After retiring, and unable to remain idle, she worked as a crossing guard in South Portland, and was a volunteer usher at Merrill Auditorium for PSO. In her spare time, Eleanor enjoyed gardening, listening to all types of music, crossword puzzles, traveling with her sister in laws, being outside, spending time with family and close friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered for the Share Program with Diocese and served as Den Mother for her sons Cub Scout Troop. Eleanor will long be remembered as a very loving person who always wanted to help others. Eleanor was predeceased by three brothers, George, Ralph, and Peter Jungermann. She is survived by a daughter, Winnifred Malia and her husband John Coty of Scarborough; three sons, William and his wife Sheila Malia of PA, Stephen and his wife Deborah Malia of Scarborough, and Thomas and his wife Lynn Malia of AL; a brother, Gerard Jungermann of NY; ten grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 9:15am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.     We are saddened to hear of Eleanor’s passing. Being the last ones out of Sacred Heart/St. Dominic’s together or the first ones arriving together for the Sunday night Mass will always be a great memory.
    She always had a funny story and a smile to share!
    Her faith was a witness of life in Christ!
