North Yarmouth-Michael Stephen Biskup of North Yarmouth, Maine passed away unexpectedly August 10th, 2023 at the age of 63. He experienced a medical event while enjoying a summer evening on a lake near home.
Michael was born on June 16, 1960 in Portland, Maine. He graduated from Portland High School Class of 1978. He studied building construction at SMVTI and earned an Associate Degree in Building Construction. He later studied engineering at Center for Degree Studies. He started his career at EC Jordan, Whitman & Howard, Inc. and Squaw Bay Corp. He went on to work for Sevee & Maher Engineers, Inc. as an Engineering Technician while doing continuing education throughout his career there. He then spent many years as the Manager at the Board Barn. Recently he has been the Project Manager at Slocum Custom Builders and had a pre-retirement job as a Courier for Portland Sameday.
Michael had a love for sports and enjoyed playing competitive racquetball, football and baseball which developed into a passion for coaching. From Little League coaching to travel basketball, he proudly was a part of starting the AAU Girls Basketball Team called the Maine Miracle. He went on to coach Women’s Basketball for the Central Maine Women’s Mustangs. Some of Michael’s fondest memories were winning little league and AAU championships. Michael truly enjoyed the competitive nature of team sports and being a part of the development of his players. He left a lasting impression on those he coached with his unique ability to build enthusiasm which led to a winning atmosphere.
Michael lived every day devoted to bringing joy to his wife of 40 years, daughters and grandson. There wasn’t a day that went by without him visiting or sharing videos of his grandson, who brought him a tremendous amount of happiness. He also considered his golden retrievers Chelsea, Phoebe and Cricket to be members of his family and they brought daily joy to his life. Michael had a great love for outdoor adventures, including riding his e-bike throughout Franconia Notch, which held special memories including where he proposed to his wife. His happy place was on the lake fishing and kayaking, surrounded by close friends and family. His most recent traveling highlights were to Sedona and Bermuda, but was someone who liked to seize the moment in his daily routine. His sense of humor was literally out of this world. Anyone that shared a conversation with him was sure to have a good laugh.
We would like to say a special thank you to the amazing first responders and incredible rescue team. It was very comforting knowing that he had the best possible care.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Virginia (MacDowell) and Ignatzius Biskup and brother John Charlton. He is survived by his wife Donna (Skillings) Biskup, daughter Kristen (Phil) Lowe and grandson Owen Michael Lowe of Yarmouth, daughter Karlee Biskup and her companion Brandon Melanson of Lyman, sister Pat Crockett of South Portland, brothers Jim (Sandy) Biskup of Windham, Bob (Mary) Biskup of South Portland, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Donna, Kristen and Karlee – I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s death, my condolences to all of you. Great memories of your basketball teams and working with Mike to setup practice times. Also his leader ship in setting up Rec trips to Celtics. Most of all, his friendship to talk about Greely sports or sports in general. He was always so proud of your accomplishments. One of the great guys in Cumberland/N. Yarmouth
Uncle Mike is a true hero to me.
He brought so much joy to everyone in his life with his jokes his smile, and his kindness.
I hope that all who loved him can find peace someday in the memories of fun, love, and caring that he shared.
I am blessed to have so many of those fond memories to call on. My world was a better place because Uncle Mike was part of it.
Coach Biskup left a lasting impression on all his athletes. I am thankful to be one of them. He always had a smile on his face, a joke to crack, and an encouraging word. I am thankful he continued to reach out over the years and check in or let me know he was proud of me. ♡
We are so sorry to hear that Mike has passed away so suddenly. Our prayers are for the entire Biskup family.

Mike inspired so many student athletes to do and be their best not only on the field of play — but also in their lives. Our family heartbroken and so sorry for your loss. Paula and Dave Spellman
Our neighbor for over 30 years…..so good to my parents and a shared love for the outdoors and Sedona:)
Selfless love of others always❤️
We all admire his steadfast strength, care, kindness, and love for his family and the wider community.
Literally one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever met. Love and strength to everyone who knew him❤️
Whenever I picture Mike, he always has a smile on his face and he always brought one upon mine. He couldn’t talk to you within getting a laugh at out of you that’s for sure. Although I think I was a bit scared of him when he played Santa for me and Abby as kids at Steve’s house… but in those high school years he was like a second dad to me. So caring and loving and supportive. I can still hear his voice from the crowds shouting out to us during our volleyball games, and he made sure to always give me positive feedback after each game even if it wasn’t the best. The photo he made for us of Moosehead Lake is still a family favorite -and gets compliments from all the new visitors. He was one of the good ones, and left his mark on the community. I will miss him gratefully. The biskup family is my family forever and always!
Donna, I was so sorry to see this news. It has been a long time since working with Mike, but I always will remember his great sense of humor and wonderful smile. He was so fun to work with. My thoughts are with you and your family.

We all were shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of your passing… I loved and admired your special coaching style and the relationship and bonds you had with your players. The same can be said for the bond you had with your daughters and Donna. I will always remember you did everything with a smile on your face ! It didn’t take long to see you were not only a special coach but a special dad, husband and human being. I am so sorry for your family’s loss but there’s no doubt in my mind that God has a plan for you to continue to use your special skill set for years to come so carry on my friend and do what you do – bring warmth and joy to people’s hearts !
