Windham - Viola Smith, 81, died on May 9, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Viola was born in Cherryfield on July 15, 1941, the daughter of the late Donald and Virginia Sinclair. She was proud to say she graduated from Colby College with a bachelor's degree in business.
One of her biggest aspirations after college was to come to southern Maine to put down roots and make a better life for her family. Viola was in an all-girl band where she was the lead guitarist. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with friends, to include playing on a softball team. She also enjoyed being out in nature watching the wildlife. She treated everyone like family and was always someone you could trust in to lend a helping hand. To her grandson and his friends she was known as Grammy Vi, a name she was always proud of.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Harris and her husband Scott of Biddeford; her grandson, Ryan and his wife RaeJean; four great grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Tyler Gagne, Xavier Gagne, Joshua Somerville.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1:30pm, at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home.
