Philip MacDonald Hall

philip hall
Scarborough- Philip MacDonald Hall, 81, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, following an extended illness. Philip was born in Gardiner, Maine on March 19, 1942 the son of the late Philip J. and Beatrice (MacDonald) Hall. He spent his childhood growing up in Whitefield, Maine. In 1957, Phil met Roxanne Louise Warren in her driveway in Pittston, and the rest is history. They were married in Randolph, Maine on March 14, 1959. In August of 1962 they purchased their first home on Willowdale Road in Scarborough, later they moved onto Black Point Road where they raised their family together. Moving again several times staying around the Scarborough area. In his earlier years he worked primarily as a truck driver, driving for Dairy Transport, First National and McCarthy Trucking, he then moved on to Southworth Machine. While working full time he would also work nights and weekends with his uncle at his uncle's auto repair business. In 1966 he purchased Black Point Auto Body and in 1977 he purchased Highland Avenue Auto Parts, which he sold in 1983. In his spare-time, Phil enjoyed buying and selling antique and vintage cars, having several auto auctions. He also dabbled in buying and selling properties, he always loved a challenge. He and Roxanne liked to travel, going to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Puerto Rico, where they both enjoyed their vacation stay at Myrtle Beach and visiting family in Sacramento. He was an avid hunter, (some might say a heater hunter) he went on a moose hunt in the Allagash with his 3 sons and grandsons, where he shot his moose. A memory he took pride in being with his boys. His kids fondly remember making ice cream in the winter using ice from the pond in the back yard on Black Point Road. One could find him at the race track in Wiscasset, also at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. He loved cutting, splitting and stacking his own firewood, a job he was still doing this past winter. Phil was predeceased by a son, Kris MacDonald Hall in 2021; a grandson, Alex Chandler Paradis in 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Roxanne L. 1. Roxanne,
So sorry to hear of Buster’s passing. I have such wonderful memories of you both at “8 Hill Street.”
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  2. I’m sorry to hear this news. Phill and my family have had a long history into the the mid sixty’s.As I was the caretaker of Scarborough Auto Parts. We had bought and sold many vehicles between us. Later years he was aways looking to get a deal on a part that he had a place where he could sell it and make a $. He would come into the office with hands in his jacket pocket and step into my office and pull his hands out with all the winnings that he brought back from Oxford casino there were so any chips! He loved gambling!
    Rest I please my friend!

  3. Randy and I are truly sorry for your loss ! Thinking of you at this difficult time 💐
    Prayers ,
    Michelle and Randy

  4. My favorite story is having dinner with the Hall Family for Kris’ birthday and I stumped Phil, who was the Wikipedia of Automobiles, by asking what was the engine in a 1986 Firebird. Neither he nor his son’s at the table knew the 1986 Firebird had a 4 cylinder option. I will never forget that lil smile when I showed him on Google that they had this engine from 1982-1986. Worst car I ever owned – lol!

  5. I might Phil through my fiance’ Johnny who was the bestest of friends with Kris and Ann Marie. I immediately loved Phil and Roxie. They were fun, full of life, love and laughter. May Phil be healed an joined with his loved ones that go before him and may he continue to watch over Roxie and his family.
    All our love,
    Nikki and Johnny

  6. Phil was always a quiet, kind soul. I can’t imagine his ever raising his voice but you knew when he was decided on a subject

  7. I knew Phil through my late husband Ron. He had known Phil and Roxanne for 50 years. They lived up behind us on Barley Lane for several years.

  8. To show you what a small world it is, my next door neighbors when I grew up in South Portland were Andrew and Pauline Michaud. They bought Phil and Roxanne’s house on Scottow Hill Rd. ( I was originally Pam Beck.)

  9. Just now learning of Phil’s passing and would like to pass on condolences to the Hall family. I worked for Phil at Highland Avenue. Phil Salway

  10. It is with great sadness that we just learned of Phil’s passing. We have so many grateful memories of Phil’s many kindnesses to us through the years.

Our hearts go out to Roxie and the family. With deepest sympathy,

    Caryl Estes and Sonny King
