SCARBOROUGH – Bonnie Jean (Curry) Littlefield, 74, of Scarborough, ME gained her angel wings early Friday morning April 21, 2023, after several years of long-term illnesses. She passed away peacefully with the support of her family, friends and the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME. She was born at the Maine Eye & Ear Infirmary in Portland, ME on January 5, 1949, the oldest of three daughters to Captain Thomas E. Curry & Dorothy L. (Gervais) Curry. She attended South Portland schools and graduated from Waynflete (Portland, ME) Class of 1968 although the South Portland High School Class of '67’ was where her heart was. She worked on their Reunion Committee and remained friends with most of the class until the time of her passing. In 1972, she joined the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was active in the Preceptor Kappa Chapter until 2020. She remained active and over the years held many positions including that of President and numerous other officer positions including Treasurer of the City Council. Bonnie loved to help people. She would knit many various items for “Project Linus” and Project G.R.A.C.E. and completed these items with the Knitting Group at the Hillcrest Retirement Community where she resided. Bonnie married Gary Raymond Littlefield on July 26, 1969, at Holy Cross Church in South Portland, ME. Together they had two children: David Littlefield and Amy (Littlefield) Richard and would enjoy a loving marriage that would last almost 54 years. They also had a cocker spaniel named Bailey that was their forever beloved dog. Bonnie’s first job was at the Pond Cove IGA in Cape Elizabeth, ME where she worked until she began raising her family with her loving husband Gary. She would then become a stay-at-home mom raising their children until she began working from home for Market Research Unlimited. In 1983 she began working for the South Portland Municipal Credit Union which would become the Greater Portland Municipal Federal Credit Union and is Evergreen Credit Union today. While working for the GPMFCU she became the Branch Manager of an Educational Program within South Portland High School allowing students to gain real life experience working in a Credit Union before they would graduate preparing them for jobs in the financial world. Bonnie was especially proud of this program and the success of her students. After running this program for a few years, she would transition into the Branch Manager at the Portland City Hall office. Bonnie was a Camp Fire Girls Leader and also volunteered for many years. She loved volunteering in the concession stand for the South Portland American Little League. She enjoyed watching both of her children play their little league baseball & softball games. She was a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Lincoln Elementary School in South Portland, ME and Bonnie would often be seen chaperoning on several student field trips. Bonnie and Gary would enjoy several trips to Las Vegas enjoying the World-Famous Vegas Strip and more recently Cape Coral, FL where they would snowbird for the past several years visiting with close friends while in Southern Florida. Locally, she loved to get a coffee and go to Bug Light Park in South Portland, ME (aka as her happy place) to enjoy the beautiful view of Portland Harbor and Casco Bay as the boats passed by. Bonnie loved spending time with her grandchildren. She would enjoy time with her granddaughter Ashley Littlefield while gardening and teaching her how to knit the way she had for many years. She enjoyed caring for her grandson Benjamin Richard while Amy was away on business trips. They did lots of fun things together including yearly visits to Peaks Island for a day of exploring and fun and catching a Seadogs game. She was an avid and passionate Red Sox fan known for not missing many televised games. In her son David’s younger years, she always looked forward to each year when the new season of baseball cards came out so she could help make it a complete and full set. She enjoyed taking trips with Amy on the Scotia Prince with her class from the school credit union and visits to Naples, FL to visit her late Aunt Phyllis. She had a special bond with her daughter Amy and became best friends as the years passed. Bonnie & Gary were often seen enjoying their favorite meals at Dimillo’s Floating Restaurant where they developed a strong friendship with their normal server Lisa who became very fond of them. If they weren’t at Dimillo’s they could be found at Romeo’s in Scarborough, ME where Nicki or Paige would often serve them their favorite meals and spirits. 11. My memories go way back to six grade At Frank I Brown School where I first met her. We played basketball in junior high and part of high school. We were in classes together in Junior High and home rooms in High school
We worked together on our class reunions for over forty five years and for almost all of that time she was the treasurer. Bonnie was a very special friend and will be dearly missed.
