  1. My buddy of 45 years is gone but the incredible laughter, duck hunting and boating around the Maine islands will never be forgotten. My you rest in peace my ole friend

  2. I want to add to Richard’s story. My family has been Ripley neighbors of the Driscolls since 1986 and we have shared many wonderful times there. My favorite story is of the rescue Richard recalled. It was summer 1989. Early that morning we heard Jim calling my husband Dick from outside our camp. It was dense fog, and Jim had heard calls for help. Dick and Jim hustled out to our motorboat and inched their way to Upper Birch Island, where a dad and 3 daughters had been all night. They had canoed there the day before from their nearby camp, and then the fog rolled in. They were cold, hungry, tired and very relieved to be found. The dad was shirtless, having offered it to keep his girls warm. Jim gave him his shirt, and they were brought back home. Years later we recalled that memorable day. Jim’s wry comment….”that was my favorite shirt “.
Jim will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

  3. God Bless Jim – may he rest in peace with the Lord. Jim was an outstanding attorney & an even better person !! Not a bad basketball player either (Immaculate Class of 1969, one of the greatest IHS teams of all times). So many memories & so much appreciation for having Jim as a terrific friend in my life. Rest in peace dear friend. Bob Van Houten

  4. Jim and I met as freshman at Holy Cross. Although Jim and his family hailed from Connecticut he longed to be a resident of Maine and in particular Washington county and Cherryfield. Both our dads attended all the Cross at the same time and they knew each other. After graduation Jim and Nancy came to Maine often for skiing and other outdoor activities. Jim loved Sugarloaf and we skied together often always knocking back scotch for him and gin for me. He was a great friend who tried hard to pick up the Maine accent and he was doing OK with it last time we got together. Rest in peace brother Jim and I’ll see you on that magical ski trail in the future.

  5. to Nancy, Brian, Jessica, Daniel, Erin and Brian D., I had breakfast with Jimmy on the morning of Daniel and Jessica’s wedding and so vividly remember his kindness and warmth that I want to let you all know how sorry I am.
    God bless, and take care,
    from Daniel’s mom, Elizabeth

  6. Jim was such a welcoming, joyful guy and I’m so glad I could spend time at his camp years ago with his daughter Erin. I’ll always remember him enjoying his family in Maine.

  7. Dear Driscoll Family. What to say. Too many great memories to recount. Rest in peace now Jim. I know the Driscoll and Andersen boys are up there with their cups and cigars..telling stories..and smiling down on us. Sorry we could not attend the service..love and most heartfelt condolences to you all.
    Love the Andersen family

  8. Jimmie RIP. HC classmate & friend many years thereafter. His kindness will live in our hearts. Paul & Paula Ruozzi

  9. We were at the cabin in Maine one summer. It was a really foggy early morning. We all had heard a faint yelling for help. James with his larger than life voice was able to make contact with the distressed. A father and daughter were out and got stranded on a little island due to the thick fog. I believe we got one of the neighbors who had a boat to go make the rescue. That whole vacation was full of excitement and adventure, especially for me since the Driscoll family welcomed me on their annual summer trip. They trusted me with driving a quad for the first time alone. James also was the first one to teach me how to shoot. I’ll never forget James. Much love and hugs to all his family in these hard times.

  10. Jim was happiest at Ripley, sharing his special retreat with family and friends. He loved the water, the night sky, and cooking amazing breakfasts to share.
