Resided in: South Portland, Maine

Mary "Honey" Patricia Campbell, born on March 16, 1931, in Portland, Maine, passed away on May 26, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by family. Mary was a loving, dedicated, and compassionate woman who touched the lives of countless people throughout her 92 years. A proud resident of South Portland, she devoted her life to helping others, both in her personal and professional life. Mary grew up on Clark Street and was part of the St. Louis Church Polish community. Her parents, Walter and Mary (Arbechesky) Dobrowsky gave Mary and her sister, Dorothy, the gift of music. As teens, Mary, on accordion, and Dotty, on piano, played and entertained for many of the Polish community parties. Mary graduated from Cathedral H.S., Mercy School of Nursing Grad. ‘52, and with great pride, she wore the RN “whites” through out her professional career in Washington D.C., Mercy Hospital, and private duty culminating at Maine Medical Center for over 35 years, retiring at 80 in 2011. She married Donald P. Campbell on September 4, 1954. They moved to South Portland and raised two children, Michael and Kathleen. Mary was a selfless person, giving everything she had to helping others. To every life she touched, Mary was a nurturing, compassionate, and devoted caregiver and savior to her family. She loved her pets, sitting in the sun, music, cooking polish dishes and shopping trips with her mother and aunt. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Gosnell House, including the “visiting angels”, the RN’s and CNA’s, that gave Mary such great care, and a special thanks to family friend and RN, Joanne Orr, for the love and support she gave. Visiting hours will be held from 11AM - 1PM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A graveside service will be held at 1PM at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.

Guestbook

  1. Mary was a year ahead of me at Mercy, and when I graduated I became her Assistant Head Nurse on the 4th Floor, male med-surge.
Always a wonderful nurse and easy to work with. In later years I would often see her when we both worked at MMC.
Praying for Mary, and also for her family.
