Louise M Cady
October 17, 1930 ~ March 21, 2018
South Portland - Louise M. Cady, 87, passed away on March 21, 2018 at Seaside Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born in Portland on October 17, 1930, Louise was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kane. Raised in the West End neighborhood of Portland, Louise was a communicant of the former St. Dominic Parish.
Louise grew up right next door to Raymond Cady. They spent their childhood together, started dating in High School and eventually married on June 13, 1953 at St. Dominic's. Throughout their 64 years of marriage, they lived in many places throughout the country due to Ray's service in the United States Marine Corps. During this time, her husband Ray spent two different years overseas at which time Louise returned to the Portland and Cape Elizabeth areas with her son Paul. Louise took over complete control and care for her small family and kept everything secure until her husband returned home again.
However, when it was time to retire, they came back to Maine where they made their home in South Portland.
In Louise's early years, the untimely death of her father left her mother widowed and raising 4 daughters. Putting her family's needs above her own, she left school to work at Porteous, Mitchell and Braun, a job she enjoyed for several years, in order to help support her mother. As a continued testament to the loyalty and devotion to family, Louise once again took the initiative to care for her sister, Nancy, following the death of her mother.
Louise enjoyed her walks with her husband, especially the daily walks at Bug Light. She was a loving, caring and devoted person who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Louise is predeceased by her sisters, Nancy Kane, Barbara Steffe and Dorothy Tuttle. She is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond Cady of South Portland, son, Paul Cady of St. Louis, Mo; and granddaughter, Kelsey Cady of St. Louis, Mo, her sister, Betty and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours celebrating Louise's life will be held on Monday, March 26 from 10-11AM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland followed by a funeral service at 11AM. A reception in continued celebration of her life will follow at the Conroy-Tully Walker Reception Center.
