South Portland, Maine
SOUTH PORTLAND--Pamela Susan Bryant Libby passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at Maine Medical Center after a long and fierce battle against kidney and heart disease.
She was born February 23, 1951 in Damariscotta to parents Annette and Howard Bryant of Bristol, the oldest of five children. She attended local schools and graduated from Lincoln Academy.
Pam moved to Portland and worked at Unum for over 20 years in the benefits department, retiring after the birth of her second daughter, and continued to produce the Unum Retirees newsletter until recently.
On November 4, 1978, she married Randolph Libby, formerly of Westbrook. They relocated to South Portland where they welcomed two daughters, Jessica Marette and Emily Launor. Her girls were the joy of her life and she supported them unconditionally. She was a faithful parent volunteer at Hamlin Elementary School and Mahoney Middle School, as well as a member of the South Portland High School Music Boosters.
With her family, she took many trips both within the US and abroad creating wonderful memories. A favorite spot was Disney World where they often met up with other family members and friends.
Pam was always willing to help with an event or a person in need whenever she could. She was a fabulous cook and gardener and loved decorating for the holidays. At Christmas, there was a themed tree in every room for her Annual Open House. Pam loved her neighborhood and her neighbors, never considering the possibility of moving and always looking forward to the annual block party.
She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws Richard and Marjorie Libby, and by an infant brother Scott.
Pam is survived by her husband, Randy of South Portland; daughters, Jessica Libby and partner, Sean Senior of Portland, Emily Libby and husband, Cody Leland of South Portland; sister, Debbie Chapman and husband, Richard of Bristol; in-laws, Cathy Libby Gorham and husband, Harry of Westbrook, Bruce Libby and wife, Donna of Gorham; niece, Melissa Temple who donated a kidney to Pam upon her initial diagnosis; too numerous to list are the many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who she dearly loved and loved her in return. She will be especially missed by her loving fur ball Martha and her forever companion Sonny.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 3rd from 4-6pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4th at noon at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org) or Animal Refuge League (arlgp.org).

I worked with Pam at Unum in the late ’70’s. She was a very kind person and so I never forgot her. I also bought an old car from her that she didn’t really want. She said she would use the money to buy a sofa, as I recall! My sincere condolences to the family.

Pam and I worked together many years at Unum, including when she got married and had both of her children. When she first returned to work after getting married, she had trouble remembering to answer the phone with her new last name….so I cut the label of a can of Libby’s vegetables, which at the time printed the name in large letters three times to go with their theme song “if it says Libby, Libby, Libby on the label, label, label, you will love it, love it, love it on your table, table table” and glued it to cardboard and put it by her phone to help her get used to it. We had so many laughs back in the day! And she wanted those children SO BADLY, and was so thrilled to become and be a mom. She took a picture every week…wow! They were her pride and joy. Such a wonderful human and a great loss.

I’ve known Pam from my early days at Union Mutual. She knew everyone and what department they were in and where they used to work. We both had kids in Kindercare together and our two families went to Disney together. We took the kids apple picking a lot, too. She was in charge of publishing the Unum Retirees newsletter for years and she did it extremely well. Asked folks to write articles and she put them together and got it printed. For years she made huge salads for all the retirees at the picnics. Such a generous, giving person. She was amazingly strong. When she started having her health issues, I never heard any complaints. She was going to do what she had to do. No stopping her. She was so proud of her “Girls”. They meant the world to her and she supported them however she could. Our condolences to Randy and the girls. So sorry and she will be missed. Ann & Tom Waecker

We send our condolences to the Libby family . My two years of involvement with your family was enjoyable. My daily walks with Randy at Bug Lite. Meeting your daughters and your 2 pets. Funny Sonny never barked at me after the 1st visit. Enjoyed your neighbors and their friendship and to keep an eye on you folks with help if needed. Family and great neighborhoods are hard to come by. Pam you will be sorely missed. The family will heal together and get through these tough times. May God Bless. Gary & Linda Duranceau .
