Albert Anthony Tirabassi

SOUTH PORTLAND - Albert Anthony Tirabassi, 85, of South Portland, died January 18, 2012 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born June 6, 1926 in Portland, a son of Antonio and Clementine Sylvester Tirabassi. He was educated locally and attended Portland High School. He joined the Navy and served stateside during WWII. Al received the American Theater Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Al married Marie B. Tardif on April 27, 1957 and began raising his family. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and a Eucharistic Minister. He volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Maine Medical Center for several years. Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the 4th degree Assembly. As a professional driver, Al worked for C. M. Rice Paper Company for over ten years and 28 years with Hannaford Brothers retiring in 1991. He drove over 1,000,000 miles accident free. Al was an avid golfer and a member of Riverside Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling in the Senior Bowling League at the Big 20 in Scarborough. Al was also a member of the Eagles Club and the Italian Heritage Club for many years. Surviving are: his wife of 54 years, Marie B.; a daughter, Tina Tirabassi of Scarborough; three sons, Anthony Tirabassi of Lewiston, Michael Tirabassi (and his wife Sharon) of Alexandria, LA, Edward Tirabassi Sr. of Portland; and eight grandchildren, David, Katie, Peter, Eddie, Jr., Angela, Joseph, Amy and Ann. An 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
