CAPE ELIZABETH - Mary Katherine Staszko, 54, of Cape Elizabeth, died unexpectedly Sunday December 16, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Long Branch, NJ, a daughter of Richard D. and Joanne E. Curran McAloon.Mary attended elementary school in Orono and later moved to Portland. She was a 1976 graduate of Deering High School and a 1980 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. Prior to her graduation, she worked summers for New England Telephone Company. In 1980 she accepted a full time position with them, retiring as a service representative in March, 2012 from Fairpoint Communications. On October 12, 1985 she married Michael Staszko at St. Patrick's Church in Portland.Mary was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Church and had been involved with the Faith Formation, Youth Ministries program, served as an usher, and volunteered at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen. She had been active with the Cape Elizabeth Athletic Boosters Club and was a devoted member of a monthly book club. Mary will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was a giving, friendly person, who always had a positive outlook on life. She never missed any of her daughter's sporting events.She loved being a part of the Cape Elizabeth Community. Mary enjoyed the beach and was a talented baker, who proudly shared her treats with friends and family. Survivors include her beloved husband, Michael Staszko of Cape Elizabeth; her daughter, Anya Staszko of Cape Elizabeth; a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Littlefield of Portland; two brothers, James McAloon and his wife Theresa of Portland, Thomas McAloon of Portland; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday December 19, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 11:45 a.m. December 20, followed by a 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew Church, 8 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth. Spring burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth.
