Falmouth, Maine. Donald D. Raymond, 83, formerly of South Casco, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth following a long period with Alzheimers disease. He was born May 4, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts, to H. Nelson Raymond and Doris Dillingham Raymond. He graduated from Deering High School and received a B.A. from the University of Maine, and a M.A. in Education from the University of Southern Maine. Don was drawn to mathematics and was a math teacher throughout his professional life, teaching at Jack Junior High School, Longfellow School, Portland High School, Southern Maine Community College and St. Josephs College. Along with his penchant for math, Don loved sports. He was a lifelong sailor and skier. He thoroughly enjoyed Maines oceans and lakes and served as a ski patroller at Pleasant Mountain. He also coached tennis and swimming and spent time as the Winter Operations Manager for the Portland Expo. He shared his love of athletics with his children and was a fixture on the sidelines during their competitions. Don is predeceased by his daughter, Susan Elizabeth Raymond, and a brother, Richard Raymond. He is survived by his longtime companion, Deborah Pennels of South Casco; a daughter, Margaret Pelton and husband Nye of Portland; a daughter, Katy Wallace and husband Colby of South Portland; a daughter, Ann Sofoluwe and husband Rotimi of Glenview, Illinois; a son, Benjamin Raymond and wife Caroline of Cape Elizabeth; ten grandchildren, Emily Ayoob of New York City, Connor and Griffin Buckley of Portland, William and Carter Wallace of South Portland, Evelyn and Tallulah Sofoluwe of Glenview, Illinois, Gabrielle and Finnegan Raymond of Cape Elizabeth, and Andrew Smith of Auburn; and two great-grandchildren, Simone and Antoine Ambrosino of New York City.
