SOUTH PORTLAND - Rachel I. Raven, 95, of South Portland, formerly of Auburn died peacefully August 12, 2011, at South Portland Nursing Home. She was born February 18, 1916 in Manton, Michigan, a daughter of Matt and Christina Peterson Raven. Rachel was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Western Michigan University in 1952. Following college, Rachel worked for Stouffer's Corp. in their restaurants and food service as a dietitian and food services manager until 1973. From 1973, she worked as food services manager for Harvard University until retiring in 1981. Rachel moved to Maine following her retirement, settling in Lewiston and later Auburn in order to be close to her sister, Evelyn Henchal, who passed away in 1996. In 2002, she moved to Portland, residing at 75 State Street. Since March 2010, she has been a resident at South Portland Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Olga Severens and Evelyn Henchal, and two brothers, Christian Raven and Myron Raven. Among her many surviving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews are: Charles and Julia Severens of Worcester, MA; Eugene and Kathy Severens of Annapolis, MD; Sharon and Dennis Deeny of Spring Branch, TX; Rev. Msgr. Michael Henchal of Scarborough, ME; and Erik and Laraine Henchal of Gaithersburg, MD. Services will be private at a later date. Arrangements by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
