South Portland- Kenneth R. Powell, 56, of MacArthur East, died peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2016, Thanksgiving Day, his favorite holiday. His loving family was by his side. Kenny was born in Portland, Maine on September 23, 1960 the son of the late Robert V. and Helen C. (Strout) Powell. He attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in the class of 1978. On October 11, 1985, Kenny married Joyce Murphy in South Portland, where together they made their home and raised their three girls. Kenny worked for Seacoast Ocean Services, Fleet Environmental, and EPI as an Environmental Tech, a job he had for more than twenty years. He worked for a brief time with Tailor Done Landscaping, until illness forced him to retire. In his spare time, Kenny loved NASCAR Racing, building his own car for Day of Destruction at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, word search puzzles, watching old western movies and MASH reruns, going to camp, and playing cribbage. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Kenny is survived by his wife Joyce M. Powell of South Portland; three daughters, Ariel and her husband Matthias Leland of South Portland, Alyssa Powell of South Portland, and Adrianna Powell of South Portland; a sister Julie and her husband Steven Brown of South Portland; a brother Gary Powell and his companion Maureen Joyce of Milo; four grandchildren, Michael Bryant, Alyse Powell, Addyson Leland and Alivia Leland all of South Portland; an aunt Irene Goodine of South Portland; an uncle Roger Strout of South Portland; and a special friend Dale Small of South Portland. A Celebration of Kennys life will be held on December 9, 2016, from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Griffin Club, Main Street, South Portland.
