Sylvia B. Murphy

South Portland Sylvia B. Murphy, 74, died Friday, September 9, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. Sylvia was born on May 25, 1942, in Berlin, NH, a daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Foss) Benson. Although she was born in Berlin, she grew up in Bethel, where she attended Gould Academy High School. After high school, she attended Bliss Business College. After raising her children, she worked as an office administrator for George Business Forms. She later opened her own business, the New U Fitness salon. In her retirement years, she was active in senior group fitness activities including Fit to Live and Lifeline. She also enjoyed tole painting, cooking, and socializing as a member of the Red Hat Society. She is predeceased by her brother Bradley Benson. She is survived by two sons, Eric Gardner of Auburn, and Darrin Sacre and his wife Linda of South Portland; a sister, Sharon Kimball and her husband Davis of Waterford; a brother, Frank Benson and his wife Carol of Gorham; and two grandchildren, Chelsey and Faith Sacre. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 13, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm at the Chapel.
