GORHAM - Elaine M. Morton, 82, died peacefully on February 18, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born in Westfield, on March 15, 1930, the daughter of Harry and Alberta (Belyea) Whitten. Elaine grew up as one of 13 in Portland, and attended area schools. Her father, Harry, was very well known for having invented the mechanical potato picker in the early 1950's. In 1952, she married Gerald L. Morton, and together raised four children. She enjoyed flower arranging, needle work, playing Scrabble with her sisters, and completing cross word puzzles. Always kind to animals, Elaine would feed deer and birds in her backyard, and she will be missed greatly by her beloved cat Snookie. Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Gerald; daughter, Pamela Taylor and husband Stephen of Porter; three sons, Brian Morton and wife Marcell of Hooksett, NH, Thomas Morton of FL and Gerald Morton, Jr. and wife Gayle of FL; eight grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Jason, Mike, Wyatt, Jenny, and Ashley Morton, and Wayne Broderick; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Connie Dauphinee of Gorham, Grace Manoogian of Westbrook, and Elizabeth McPherson of Manchester, CT; and several nieces and nephews. She endured a long battle with Parkinson's disease, but was able to stay at home with the compassionate care of her care givers, which the family wants to thank for their help and support. A period of visitation will be held from11 am until the time of service at 12 noon on Friday, Feb. 22 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
