PORTLAND Janet Sullivan McKane, 84, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Barron Center, Portland. Born on January 14, 1932, Janet was the daughter of the late John H. and Louise (Hinds) Sullivan. She married Vernon McKane in 1966. He predeceased her in 1987. Janet graduated from Saint Josephs Academy, and attended St. Josephs College. She worked as a secretary for New England Telephone and Portland Chamber of Commerce. After marrying Vernon, they moved to Massachusetts for several years until returning to Maine in the 1970s. She was a volunteer at The Cedars and at Mercy Hospital. Janet was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and frequently attended Mass at Mercy Hospital. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet is predeceased by her sister, Catherine Sullivan and brother, John Sullivan. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Lou Somers and Anne Ingraham both of Portland, along with several nieces and nephews. Janet will be especially missed by her niece Susan Somers-Carlin of Windham, who spent a lot of time with her this year. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Nursing staff on 2N at the Barron Center for the great care and attention they gave Janet, and their loving support to the family. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday from 3-5PM at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15AM on Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a10AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 65 Mellen Street, Portland.
