Dennis W. Malpass

October 23, 1964 ~ April 13, 2017
New Hampshire - Dennis W. Malpass, 52, formerly of South Portland, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
Born in Portland on October 23, 1964, Dennis was the son of Donald and Margaret (Downs) Malpass. He graduated from Cheverus High School Class of 1983 and attained his bachelor's degree from Roger Williams University in 1987.
Dennis had a lifelong passion for golf that started at the age of 12. As a child, he was often found at South Portland Municipal Golf Course selling peanut butter sandwiches to the older golfers in hopes of joining them for a round of golf. He used these opportunities to learn from their experience. He golfed throughout his teenage years and pursued his passion when he was in college, earning the Division 3 Golf Medalist in the ECAC in 1985 and 1986. Following college, he continued playing golf and sought after his PGA card so he could teach in golf clubs. Throughout his career, he was the assistant golf pro at Key West Golf Course in Florida, the assistant golf pro at Hatherly Golf Club in Scituate, MA, head golf pro at Rangeway Golf Course in Billerica, MA, head golf pro at Meadow Creek Golf Club in Dracut and served as the first head coach of the golf team at Lowell Catholic High School.
Dennis will always be remembered by his family for having a love of golf like his father. His family often wondered, "Did Dennis ever get that hole in one like his dad??"
In addition to teaching golf, Dennis was employed with Taylor Made Transportation in Nashua, NH, and was a huge New England Sports Fan.
The one thing that superseded his passion for golf was the love and adoration he had for his daughter. He had an AMAZING relationship with his Kayleen; they loved to laugh and poke fun at one another. He loved teaching her and taking her golfing, and proudly watching her soccer games and volleyball tournaments. Dennis was incredibly proud of the athlete, student, and mature young lady Kayleen has become. He always noted that Kayleen was the best thing that ever happened to him.
Dennis will be deeply missed by his entire family and many friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald Malpass, and many extended family members.
Dennis is survived by his beautiful daughter, Kayleen Taylor Malpass of Nashua, NH; his mother, Margaret Malpass of South Portland; his siblings, Barbara Hebert and her husband Dan of Gray and Donald and Rosemary Malpass of Auburn. He is also survived by his nephew, Cody Malpass of Auburn, several aunts, uncles and COUSINS who held him in high regard. In addition, Dennis is survived by Kayleen's mother, Jennifer Nelson of Nashua, NH.
Visiting Hours were held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Friday, May 5, 2016 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for his daughter Kayleen's college fund. Checks should be made out to "Kayleen Malpass ME UTMA" and given to a family member or deposited directly to this account at any TD Bank.
Wishing you comfort and strength during this difficult time.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. We’ll remember Dennis as an excellent people person welcoming all at our front desk during the winters of 2009-11 at the Weston Ski Track. In the summer he became the perfect host for our staff party at the Rangeway driving range. We feel fortunate to have known Dennis as the loving father of Kayleen and as a friend. He will be missed by many.
