South Portland- Barbara D. Lee, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday April, 15, 2016 at the South Portland Nursing Center following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers Disease. Barbara was born in Portland, Maine on March 9, 1938, the daughter of the late Edwin and Lillian (Wiley) MacLachlan. She attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in the class of 1957. Barbara was a strong and determined woman who served as an administrative assistant with the CIA for a number of years. Later was employed by Dielectric Communications for more than 20 years. She finished her working years with the Portland Water District. Her other full time job was that of a single mother raising her son Brian, of whom she was very proud. She has fond memories of growing up on Hall Street in So. Portland and spending time with her 3 closest friends, also known as the Hall Street Gang. Barbara loved boating, sailing, going to the beach and visiting lighthouses. Her greatest love was the time she spent with her family, especially her two grandsons Aidan and Owen. Barbara was also a long time member of the Peoples United Methodist Church in South Portland. She is survived by her son Brian and his wife Joanne Lee of Cape Elizabeth; two grandsons Aidan and Owen Lee of Cape Elizabeth; two step brothers Greg and Gordan MacLachlan both of Alaska. Barbaras family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of South Portland Nursing Home, and especially her longtime caregiver Susan, with whom she had a close bond. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. A service will follow at 6:00pm at the chapel. Barbara. you will certainly be missed. You loved sharing with me how much you loved your family. Brian was your bright and shining star. You were so proud of him, as we are. We would laugh when talking about the grandchildren. I’ll miss that as I know Brian, Joanne, Aiden and Owen will too. Take your long awaited rest Barbara. Rest easy in God’s arms.
