PORTLAND - Irma Victoria Kennedy, 91, formerly of Portland, died Friday August 23, 2013 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough with her family by her side. She was born in Lettomanoppello, Italy on October 25, 1921, a daughter of Paulo and Santa (Donatelli) DiSciullo. Irma was raised in Italy until age 15, when the family moved to Maine. She attended parochial schools and was a graduate of Portland High School. As a young woman, Irma worked for Nissen's Bakery. She met her future husband Vincent James Kennedy while working at Nissen's. They married in 1945 and soon began raising a family. After her children entered school, Irma returned to work at the First National Bakery. She retired from First National in the early 1970's. Irma enjoyed a trip to Italy many years ago with her husband. She traveled to her childhood city where she recounted her early life to Vincent. Irma was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an awesome cook who enjoyed opening her home to family and friends. Irma also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Vincent in 2006 and an infant son Vincent James in 1952. Survivors include her two daughters, Anna M. (Kennedy) Ellenwood of Yarmouth, Joan P. Cushman and husband Thomas of Portland; two sons, Michael A. Kennedy and wife Wanda of Yarmouth, Vincent J. Kennedy and friend Sue Banacos of Hudson, NH; a sister Antoinette B. Herrman and husband Albert of Bartlett, TN, 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday August 29, 2013 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
