SOUTH PORTLAND - Simone M. "Sim" Hache Ramsay Joyce, 87, of Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. Simone was born in Rumford, Maine on June 25, 1926 the daughter of Alphonse and Thedelind Thibault Hache. She attended local schools there and graduated from Stephens High School, with honors, in the class of 1945 . She continued her education at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing receiving her Registered Nurses Degree in 1948. On November 25, 1950 she married William T. Ramsay at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Portland. Together they lived and raised their family in South Portland. William died on March 8 , 1977. Simone worked as Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital form her entire career, retiring in 1991 after more than 42 years of nursing. Her dedication and compassion to her job and patients was admired and welcomed by many people. In 1991, Simone married John J. Joyce and together they enjoyed retirement living life to the fullest, traveling and going on several cruises, winters together at their condo in Florida, and spending time with family and friends. Simone was most happy when she had her two grandsons, Daniel and Neil, at her side, whether it was playing games or spending time at the beach, they were her "boys". She also enjoyed knitting, playing beano, and many summers at the cottage on Crystal Lake in Gray with several special families. Simone was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking, especially her molasses cookies and her chocolate and peanut butter fudge. She never missed a day of doing the puzzles in the paper. She was a lifelong communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland where she was an active member in many ways including serving on the Parish Council and was active part of the annual Christmas Fair. Simone was predeceased by her second husband John J. Joyce on July 11, 2007; a brother Msgr Rev. Edmond J. Hache; three sisters Germaine Therrien, Jaquelyn Melanson and Theresa Brumby. She is survived by a son Thomas E. "Tucker" Ramsay of South Portland, two daughters Patricia A. Ramsay, and her partner, Phil Kline, and Kathleen M. and her husband Neil Maietta both of South Portland; two sisters Martha Bartlett of Minott, ME and Joan Peabody of Portsmouth, NH; two grandsons Daniel L. and Neil W. Maietta of South Portland; Sister in law Dorothy Egan, sister in law, Mildred Whitmore, and brother-in-law, Richard Joyce and his wife, Susan, all of Portland along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday, October, 24, 2013 at 10:15am followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
