Richard Francis Ellis, I

SCARBOROUGH - Richard Francis Ellis, I, age 74, of Scarborough, died Saturday February 15, 2014 at his residence following a long illness. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts a son of Helen F. Barker. Richard was a 1957 graduate of Peabody High School in Peabody, Massachusetts. Following high school Richard joined the Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1964. On August 16, 1975 he married the former Roberta Jean Pooler in South Portland. Richard was a volunteer fire fighter with the town of Scarborough for over 20 years. He was employed at Southern Maine Technical College for 18 years. He loved pets and was especially his dog "Sasha" who was always his constant companion. Richard enjoyed sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox and NASCAR fan. Survivors include, his beloved wife Roberta J. Ellis of Scarborough; a daughter, Heather J. Mehlhorn and husband Robert of Scarborough; four sons, William I. Ellis of Milo, Richard F. Ellis, II of Saco, Michael P. Ellis of Scarborough, Joseph P. Ellis of Scarborough; eight grandchildren. A 1:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Saturday, February 22nd, at the South Portland Nazarene Church, 525 Highland Ave., South Portland.
