A.J. Hill

South Portland - A.J. Hill, 26, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2017 of an apparent drug overdose. Born in Portland on July 24, 1990, A.J. was the son of Arthur Hill, Sr. and Judith Roberts. He attended South Portland High School before enlisting in the United States Army where he served as a combat veteran in the 82nd Airborne in Iraq. A.J. was a kindhearted and engaging young man who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a simple, easy going guy who was proud of his service to his country and a loving father to his 6 year old son, Brayden. He was the typical happy-go-lucky 26 year old from New England, who enjoyed Boston sports and spending time with his family and friends. A.J. fought and ultimately lost his battle to the emotional and physical pain of war and his subsequent addiction. He was a good hearted kid who carried around a demon. A.J. received tremendous amounts of support from his friends and family, especially his loving mother, Judy. However, once the hooks of addiction set in, there was no amount of love or support that could help him break it. He is predeceased by his grandfather, William Roberts. A.J. is survived by his beloved son, Brayden Hill; mother, Judy Hill; brother, Daniel Roberts and fiance Elizabeth Lee; beloved grandmother, Patricia Roberts; grandmother Judy Hill of Scarborough; father, Arthur Hill; former wife, Jessica Tripp; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 6 from 4-8PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 11AM at the Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at a later date. 4. We love and will miss you, AJ. I remember when you and your mother stayed with us on Long Island last summer. We had lobsters for dinner and then a bonfire on the beach. We had so much fun that night. You kept saying you were going to go for a swim (it was 11:00 at night). You walked in up to your ankles and quickly changed your mind. I hope you found your peace.
