Alan Michael Guimont

SOUTH PORTLAND - Alan Michael Guimont, 64, of South Portland, died April 27, 2011at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a long illness. He was born on January 13, 1947 in Portland, a son of Paul A. and Alice O'Leary Guimont. Alan attended local schools and was a 1965 graduate of Portland High School. In September 1966, Alan joined the Army and proudly served his country during the Viet Nam Conflict and was awarded the Army Commendation medal for valor and action that occurred during the 1968 Tet offensive. He served one tour of duty in Viet Nam and also served in Germany. On August 31, 1968, he married the former L. Marie McCalmon. Al and Marie had graduated from grammar school together and late from Portland High School. After being separated from active duty, Alan returned to Portland and began working for Grossman's Lumber Company. He quickly moved from a position in retail sales to store manager. He and his family relocated to Bangor where he worked as store manager until 1978. He then accepted a position with Loring, Short and Harmon starting in their Bangor location and returned to Portland in 1986 to work out of the company home office. Alan later accepted a manufactures representative position with Yankee Sales Corporation. He then worked as a direct sales representative for Staedtler Corporation. In 1999, Alan joined FairPoint Communication as a sales manager in Standish. He recently worked in the events marketing department. He is a communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church, serving as a lector and member of the finance committee. He is a member of the ROMEOs (Real Old Men Eating Out), a weekly gathering of Al's brother Brian and nephew Colin as well as some friends whom he had known since high school. Al was also a former member of the Bangor Kiwanis Club. Alan was a skilled craftsman and was always delighted to offer his talents to his friends and family. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and had a goal of playing golf in every state reaching the number of 32 states before his passing. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Guimont in 2007 and a sister Sharon McDermott in 2009. Survivors include his beloved wife L. Marie Guimont of South Portland; his mother, Alice Guimont of Portland; a daughter, Nichole Reasoner and her husband Glenn of Gorham; a son, Jonathan Paul Guimont of Portland; two sisters, Paula Kennedy and her husband Lyman of Falmouth, Kathy Sparta of Falmouth; a brother, Brian Guimont and his wife Janice of Gray; two grandchildren, Sam Reasoner and Shawn Duross and many nieces and nephews that he loved. Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 29th from 5 to 9 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m., Saturday at the chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Interment with military rites will be held at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
