SOUTH PORTLAND - Jane M. Greslick passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2016 at the South Portland Nursing Home. She was born in Portland, Maine on January 28, 1918, a daughter of the late John F. Batura and Melvina (Blaska) Batura. She grew up on the West End and had two siblings, Bronick and Jadwiga. Jane attended Shailer Elementary School on North Street and graduated from Portland High School in 1936 with an award for perfect attendance. As a young woman, she took great pride in her appearance and enjoyed making her own clothes. She worked at a dress factory sewing dresses and also was very skilled at knitting and crocheting. She went on to attend business school for secretarial studies. Jane was employed as a secretary at multiple companies including Porteous, Mitchell and Braun, the Department of the Army at Fort Williams, and Fred I. Merrill in South Portland, Maine. She married the love of her life, Frank T. Greslick, on June 14, 1943. They were stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi in the 1940s while her husband served in the Army. Jane and Frank had three children together: Frank, John, and Paul. Jane was very enthusiastic about her Polish heritage. She was a long-time member of Saint Louis Catholic Church and enjoyed masses spoken in Polish. She also enjoyed dancing to big band music on the pier at Old Orchard Beach in the late 1930s. Jane enjoyed all types of dancing including jitterbug and line dancing. She enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband and sister in-law, Josephine Batura. Jane enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made beautiful mittens, scarfs, and sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She and her family enjoyed summers at the family camp on Forest Lake and house on the Saco River. She was predeceased by son Paul, husband Frank, and siblings Bronick and Jadwiga. She is survived by two sons, Frank J. Greslick and wife Fran Greslick of Windham, and John G. Greslick and wife Diane Greslick of Cape Elizabeth. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ben Greslick, Jessica Turk, Rebecca Vance, Amanda Anderson, and Abbey Greslick and ten great grandchildren: Mary, Alexander, and Amelia Greslick; Cora and Margo Turk; Bryce, Lola, and Dexter Vance; Zachary and Charlotte Anderson. Jane also has two nephews Albert and John Batura and several cousins. Services will be private. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
