PORTLAND - Robert B. Gannon, 88, of Portland, died Saturday October 5, 2013 at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Portland a son of Frank J. and Mary A. Bannigan Gannon. Robert attended local schools including Cheverus High School. Robert left school and joined the Army serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a medic during World War II. Upon returning from his military service he graduated from Deering High School in 1947. For 37 years he worked for Guy Gannett Publishing retiring in 1987. He was a member of the International Typographical Union. Robert was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. He enjoyed travel and gardening. Robert was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Gertrude Gannon, Virginia Hamblet and Frances Toomey. He is survived by his beloved wife A. Arlene Gannon of Portland; a daughter Anne E. Gannon and husband Scott McKenna of Farmington, CT and a grandson, Ethan McKenna of Farmington, CT. Services will be private with burial in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are being handled by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Homes Cremation Services, 172 State Street, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Animal Refuge League, P.O.
