Ralph Furbush

SOUTH PORTLAND - Ralph Furbush, 87, of South Portland, son of Minnie Perry and Melvin Furbush, passed away on August 29th, after being attended all day by his family. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Melburn and wife Marjorie. Ralph graduated from South Portland High School in 1945 and worked for 42 years for the Portland Pipeline Corporation on the South Portland Waterfront. An avid fly-fisherman, he spent some of his happiest days at the family camp on the Kennebago River near Rangeley. Ralph was also a talented amateur baseball and basketball player himself, and took great pride in the athletic achievements of his children and grandchildren. After his retirement, he volunteered for over twenty years at the South Portland Food pantry, and was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Ralph is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy (Fitzpatrick) Furbush; by four children: Ann Harradon and her husband Bob, Craig Furbush, Mark Furbush and Peggy Anne Koukos and her husband Louis; and by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the nurses and CNA's, and especially Bill Campbell, at the South Portland Nursing Home on Anthoine Street for all they did to help Ralph for the last fifteen months. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Monday, September 1st at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, at the chapel, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
