Betty G. Funk

GORHAM - Betty G. Funk, 92, formerly of Barrington, RI died Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Gorham House in Gorham, Maine. She was born in Clarence, Missouri on January 25, 1919 the daughter of Marvin and Madge Farrell Graves. She attended local schools there. Betty married William C. Funk on November 8, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. Together they made their home and raised their family in Barrington, Rhode Island. Betty worked as Head Teller at the Barrington Branch of Citizens Bank, retiring after twenty five years of service. She was a vestry member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Barrington and was a thirty five year member of the choir. For thirty years she was the soprano soloist. She was a former trustee of the Barrington Public Library, former president of the Barrington Women's Club, a member of the Corporation of St. Andrew's School, the Barrington Yacht Club, the league of Women Voters, the Barrington Players, Barrington Preservation Society and Linden Place in Bristol, RI, and was a fifteen year volunteer at the Rhode Island Hospital. Betty was also known for her great cooking, sense of humor, love of Bermuda and her beautiful soprano voice. Her greatest love was the time spent surrounded by her family. Betty was predeceased by her husband William on September 7, 1986. She is survived by a daughter Sally J. Funk and her companion Gerry Pikl of Cambridge, MA; a son William G. and his wife Sally Funk of South Portland, ME: two grandchildren Kristin Reynolds and her husband Douglas of Gray, ME and Eric Funk and his wife Alyssa of Chelsea, MA; four great grandchildren, Megan, Drew and twins Annabelle and Isabelle Reynolds of Gray; and a brother John Graves of Washington, DC. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Forest Chapel Cemetery, Governor Bradford Drive, Barrington, RI. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME.
