Joseph M. Fortin, Jr

SOUTH PORTLAND - Joseph M. Fortin, Jr., 85, formerly of South Portland, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. He was born in South Portland, a son of Joseph M. and Agnes Murphy Fortin, Sr. Joseph attended local schools and South Portland High School. He served stateside with the Army Air Corp during World War II. On May 13, 1950 he married the former Phyllis M. Grattan at Holy Cross Church in South Portland. Mr. Fortin worked for the railroad at the Portland Terminal for 33 years, retiring as General Yard Master. He was a member of the Brotherhood of United Transportation Union. Joseph was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Phyllis in 2010, a sister Alice I. Fortin in 2002. Joseph is survived by his daughter Christina Olagar of Texas; two grandchildren, Justin S. and Olivia T. Olaguer. Friends are invited to attend an 8:30 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
