Robert A. Flynn

South Portland,- Robert A. Flynn, 88, of Aspen Ave., died peacefully on Monday, May 04, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough with his loving family by his side. He was born in Portland, Maine on October 4, 1926 the son of the late Edward and Catherine Murphy Flynn. He attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in the class of 1944. He enlisted and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Garbrielle Anita Lehoux in 1952 and together they made their home and raised their family in South Portland. He was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he was active on many committees, served as a lector and usher and helped in any way he could. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert worked as a sales manager for Humpty Dumpty for many years before retiring in 1990 after more than 40 years of service. He was an Honorary Member with South Portland Thornton Heights Fire Department, Engine Company 6, after serving twenty six years, an active member of the Town and Country Federal Credit Union where he was a founding member and served on the board of directors, he enjoyed golfing, bowling and being a member of a small group of Maine lifelong New York Yankees fans. Robert could always be seen on the South Portland Football Field where he served as line marker for many years. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Gabrielle Flynn in 1994; three brothers Hugh, Richard, and Edward Flynn. He is survived by two daughters Donna F. and her husband Charlie Hezlep and their children Joseph and Jennie, Theresa L. and her husband Rob Foley and their children Landyn and Siobhan; four sons Michael D. and his wife Etta Flynn and his children Melanie and Christopher, Dennis J. and his wife Cathy Flynn and their children Robert, Matthew, and Shawn, Kevin J. and his wife Stacie Flynn and their daughter Averey, Stephen F. Flynn and his companion Erin Grady and his children Andrew, Patrick and Danielle; three sisters in law Rita Lehoux, Sally Flynn, and Mary Flynn; many great grandchildren. For the last twenty years his family included companion and friend Barbara Ma Cook and her family Roberts family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Scarborough Veterans Home for the care and great friendship which they extended to all of his family during his stay there. Visiting hours will held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 2:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 10:15am followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
