Eileen F. Fleming

SOUTH PORTLAND - Eileen F. Fleming, 93, died on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the South Portland Nursing Home following a brief illness. Eileen was born in Cambridge, MA on April 23, 1921 the daughter of Harold L. and Agnes A. Farrell Fleming. She attended grammar school in Cambridge until moving to Pittsfield, MA and eventually ending up living in Portland, ME where she attended Cavanuagh Catholic Grammar School and graduating from Cathedral High School in the class of 1938. Eileen worked at various jobs until joining New England Telephone Company where she worked for 41 years, one year of which was spent working for the telephone company in Pleasanton California during World War II. During her lifetime Eileen enjoyed traveling extensively. She was a member of the Jasper N. Kelly Chapter of Telephone Pioneers and also served as president. She was a longtime volunteer at the St. Vincent dePaul Soup Kitchen, and life-long communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in South Portland. Eileen was predeceased by her parents; three brothers Walter, Harold and William Fleming and two sisters Ruth Clements and Marie LaVangie. She is survived by 3 nieces Diane Winters of South Portland, Denise Burke of Rockland, MA, Karen Coyne of South Portland; 6 nephews Michael LaVangie of Abington, MA, Mark LaVangie of Whitman, MA, Kevin Fleming of South Portland, Bruce Fleming of Arlington, VA, Mark Fleming of Cape Elizabeth and David Fleming formerly of South Portland. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel at 10:15am on Thursday, October 23, 2014 followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Old Calvary Cemetery. To all of Eileen’s family I am so sorry for your loss of an amazing Lady! She is finally at peace and pain free. I am Her best friend Ursula Nixon’s niece and I know my Aunti is so very sad to see her long time friend gone.
