Dorothy Dot Donahue

Portland - Dorothy Dot Donahue, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 20, at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, after a sudden illness. She was born in Portland on February 4, 1927 to James and Mary King Doyle. She was a 1945 graduate of Cathedral High School and was employed for many years at the New England Telephone Company. Dot led an active life in her community and her church. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime communicant of St. Josephs Church. She was past president of the St. Josephs Parish Sodality, which she belonged to and enjoyed for many years. Dot was also an active member and past president of the Harold T. Andrews Post American Legion Auxiliary. Through the Auxiliary she volunteered for many years at the Maine Veterans Home and participated in numerous Veterans and Memorial Day Parades. Dot met her husband, Francis, at the Harold T. Andrews Post; they were married in St. Josephs Church on October 14, 1961. Dot was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them: baking in the kitchen; making arts and crafts; attending many sporting/social events in their lives. She would pick them up at Holy Cross School on Fridays and spend time with them as their babysitter. She recently travelled to Maryland to attend the First Communion of her twin grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Francis in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents and her aunt Genevieve; her sisters Madelyn and Eleanor Doyle; and her brothers Edward and James Doyle. She is survived by her four children, Francis of Portland, John of South Portland, Eleanor of Portland, and William and his wife Lynne of Olney, MD. Also surviving are two sisters, Frances Bryson and Sister Phyllis Doyle of Portland, and one brother, Richard Doyle, of Worcester, MA. She leaves seven grandchildren: Annelise, Madelyn, Sarah and Abby Donahue of South Portland, ME; and Catherine, William and Elisabeth Donahue of Olney, MD. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-7PM at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:15AM on Saturday followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Church, 673 Stevens Ave, Portland. To the family of Dorothy Donahue, I wish you all the best in the loss of this women .She was kind and smiling every day, she and her husband knew my parents quite well as I was a member of the Andrew Sabres Drum & Bugle Corps for 9 yrs. To Dot’s family, I am so sorry to see that Dot has passed away. Dot was a part of my life from my childhood. A very nice lady. I am so sorry I am so far away and unable to be home for her services. I am sorry to read of Dot’s passing. I had the joy of meeting her at St.Joseph manor when her brother was a resident. She was a kind, warm.caring person and I enjoyed our visits greatly. I will remeber her smile and laugh but her devotion to her family and faith will live on forever. Tina Mikkelsen
