South Portland-Adelaide Lillian Curran, 89, of Harriet Street died on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Springbrook Nursing Center in Westbrook, her loving family was by her side. Adelaide was born in South Portland on June 7, 1925 the daughter of Walter G. and Hazel Mae Haggett Coffen. She attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School in the class of 1943. She continued her education at the North Carolina School of Dress Design. In 1957 she married Martin C. Curran, together they made their home and raised their family in South Portland. Adelaide worked as a self-employed dressmaker for many years. She is responsible for making many brides dream come true with her one of kind wedding dresses which she specialized in. Her hobby, when not creating beautiful gowns, was making Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls. Her family commented that in her lifetime she has made over 7500 dolls for many children to enjoy. She was member of Senior Friends in Florida and a member of Elks Lodge Auxillary. She also enjoyed going to dances and spending time on the golf course. Her greatest love was the time she spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Adelaide was predeceased by her husband Martin in 1981 and a brother Raymond Coffen. She is survived by a daughter Marie Cathleen and her husband Robert Gerardin of Glastonbury, CT; two sons Gregory Martin and his wife Coralie Curran of South Portland and Sean P. and his wife Betsy Curran of Gorham; six grandchildren Elsa, Henry, Kelly and Jackson Curran and Nichole and Michela Gerardin . Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway followed by a 6:00pm service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
